VNU Exhibitions Europe strengthens position in China
To optimally use the opportunities for growth in Asia, VNU Exhibitions Europe is strengthening its management in Shanghai. The company has decided to appoint Jimé Essink as CEO VNU Exhibitions Asia.
VNU Exhibitions Europe is ambitious. The organisation intends not only to grow in Europe, but also in other parts of the world. In Shanghai for example, VNU Exhibitions has been represented for years in a joint venture of which VNU Exhibitions owns 70% of the shares. VNU Exhibitions Asia is already responsible for the organisation of as many as 20 different trade fairs in Shanghai, Guangzhou, Beijing en Hong Kong.
Also for trade fairs, the Chinese market offers an enormous potential for growth. VNU Exhibitions is seizing this opportunity with both hands. It has therefore been decided to strengthen local management with the appointment of Jimé Essink as CEO VNU Exhibitions Asia. Jimé Essink will be settling in Asia as of 1 September 2005 and will be managing the implementation of our intended growth from there. David Zhong will remain responsible for the Chinese market.
Jimé Essink will remain a member of the VNU Exhibitions Europe executive board, but will give up his direct responsibilities related to the Dutch organisation. These will be taken care of internally through a rearrangement of tasks.
